Wow, I am wiped out. This has been an exhausting day. I even forgot to pick up my paycheck before lunch, because I was busy. Gotta go do that now, then battle the Brown Line at rush hour. Sigh.

Really, the only point of this is to show off my new Jason Teague icon. One thing I love about Jason Teague (and you have to point them out, because other than being someone Dean Winchester would beat to a pulp, those things are few) is that he also seems to have an oral fixation, and he is uncomfortable about being back in the high school milieu, and he obsessively wraps cords all around his hands and wrists. That is ridiculously sexy and I almost couldn't tell you why.

Well, okay, I could, but I'm still at work for another eight minutes.

So, yes.

Hi.

still here
I haven't posted in like four days. In LJ time, that's like four years. Hehe. But I'm still here. Guess what I've been doing? Yup, writing. Then I took a little break from the computer at home because sitting at one at work all day, then sitting at one for another 5-6 hours at home didn't feel good for my body. I caught up on some reading and I'm not stressing as much about reaching a word count. I should be happy with what I have so far and just try my hardest whenever I do write. If I know I tried my best, then I should be satisfied with that. Most of time I push myself so hard.

I did see THE DARK KNIGHT and it was really good. But I loved seeing the WATCHMEN trailer on the big screen.

I see Eye Con has put up their site for the Supernatural cruise. Hehe. It's for next June. I'm thinking it should be a graduation present to myself!

Oostende; yoga in Amsterdam
Oostende was lovely. We walked along the tide line, wallowed in the sand, and slept. It's a sort of simple pleasure especially valuable for people who live as far from the sea as I do. The hotel was called Andromeda, and it's a really decent four-starer near Kursaal. Clean, quiet, spacey, good service.

Tales of BMF:
1. He has a very funny habit: he takes his pillow out of its pillow case in his sleep. I had heard about it from him but this time I could observe it. He really does! And he fell from his bed :)
2. BMF was send to the shop next door to buy a bottle of water. About two hours later pj, dying from thirst, texted him to ask if he was alive at all. It turned out, he decided to drink some beer and meditate at the beach. I caught him on can #7. But he did buy a big bottle of water, first thing, and carried it on him for two hours :)

A couple of Oostende pics behind the cut )

Btw, I remembered that I had gone to yoga in Amsterdam. To Iyengar Yoga Studio Amsterdam (Molenpad 15-17, on the corner with Prinsengracht). It was a beginners class and it was decent, meaning that it was very focused on correct poses and very detail-oriented but I can't say I liked it. Because IMO, it wasn't a very balanced class. In 1.5 hrs, there wasn't a single twist or sitting bend. No full Sun Salutation, in any degree of complexity. And no real warm-up. It's pretty hard to do any kind of stretch on cold muscles in a cold room, I'd say.

Now we are in Antwerp, for two more days. Apparently, we are bypassing Brugge 'cos we don't have enough time in Belgium. :(

Antwerp is unexpectedly small and also very lovely.

I suspect my appearance online will be very limited 'cos Wi-Fi here is only in the lobby and hugely expensive, but my laptop battery is dead so I can't walk around trying to pick a free one. Anyway, I'm going back home in two days, so see you all then!

fannish public service announcement
Just in case you haven't seen this elsewhere: I have known that Laura Hale (aka partly_bouncy aka purplepopple aka Michaela Ecks, all names she operates under openly) was not a good person for years and years, ever since I joined the FCA-L mailing list where Laura was posting her shoddy "research".

Laura Hale runs a wiki called FanHistory dot com. I won't link to her site, because a) I don't want to give her page hits and therefore advertising money, and b) if you visit without using an anonymizer service, I believe that she will collect and exploit your information.

Laura Hale is the kind of person who, through any means she deems necessary, will obtain your personal information and post it on her wiki. And then refuse to take it down when you ask her to, because what right do you have to privacy? According to Laura Hale, you have absolutely no right. None.

I've seen her "out" people by posting their legal names and pseudonyms together and then refuse to honor requests to remove that information at least three times in recent memory. I don't even know how many people she's done this to, because people are afraid to fight back.

Laura Hale is using fandom to make money. I don't particularly want to be sold out to the highest bidder just so Laura Hale can write off her fanzine purchases on her taxes, do you?

GJP!
Wow, haven't had one of these in awhile!

I tried an experiment last night, and as I often do when experimenting with wire and jewelry these days, I used copper. (It's much less painful to scrap, if necessary, than the astronomically expensive silver, or even worse, gold fill.) I like copper. I love the rosy-gold color of it, the warmth, the way it turns colors under a torch, and how it "ages" to an antique look. I'm highly allergic, though, so I can't actually wear it once I've made something from it.

But I LOVED how these earrings turned out. I will be making more along these lines:

Copper & Labradorite )This is some of that brilliantly flashy lab I picked up a few months ago. That gorgeous, peacock blue against the rosy gold swirls of the copper is absolutely stunning, and makes me very sad I can't wear them. But of all the jewelry affected by my allergies, earrings are the worst, because they get worn in the ears. I will be making a pair in silver tonight, you can be sure. I'll be listing these in my Etsy shop this morning sometime, with more pics and info, as per usual.

I wish the picture that goes with my horoscope was not a woman swimming through bees and being attacked by a crocodile. Yeah, that's upbeat, that is.

Happy hurricane day! The Galveston webcams look pretty stormy, and the eye is not even hitting anywhere near there. It's not raining here yet.

First day of my vacation from job #2 and this is what's going on. SIGH.

So once again someone is trying to make money by selling fandom out in the most despicable way I've ever seen -- outing people's real names/information -- details here, here, here and a horrifying perspective on the money-making part of this scheme here.

Not linking or naming the actual site/person who's doing this because that's what they want [it's all about page hits], but seriously guys -- go read those posts so you know what's going on.

I'm pretty lucky in that I don't need to distance my real life from my fannish activities. My family knows all about it [they don't care] and I have a job wherein having a fannish blog and producing fannish crap is pretty much synonym to "oh, look at how cool and modern an in she is". At which point I roll my eyes, but it's how it goes. Also, I'm "Tissa" in real life as well, so it takes about half a google search to realize who I am online. Which, again, I couldn't care less.

But I do understand that I'm the exception to the rule and that fandom is something PRIVATE for most people [aren't most hobbies?] and really, NO ONE has the right to tell other people what we do in our private time. That someone is doing this as a tactic to gain money -- there's not enough headdesking in the world. UGH

And as a disclaimer: I support the OTW. I've donated to the site. I also volunteered to do some work for them [sometime in the near future], so. There you go.

...

In other news, I'm digging this lyrics site, if only because it lists your recent tracks from last.fm right there in the front page when you're logged in. It's got a bit of a lag problem going on, but it shows promise because it's easiest editable lyrics site I've EVER seen and believe me when I tell you I've pretty much spent half of my online life on them.

[I've sorta given up on EvilLyrics because it keeps searching for lyrics on freaking YouTube of all places, I mean, WHY? And I can't figure out how to configure it to NOT look in certain sites -- I don't think it can be done? *sigh*]

Post fire update
Long time since I did one of these!

They've repainted the outside of the house - wow and YEY!

Bathroom: new bath installed, plumbing for shower present, floor tiles laid, wall tiles in process of being done today andit looks good.

Bedroom: walls and ceiling primed and the first coats of the top coat of paint are being applied. Holy hell did I really choose that BRIGHT an orange? EEEEP!

Living room: ceiling done, walls primed, fireplace and hearth not installed yet because most of the kitchen is in the living room. At least it's been delvered.

Kitchen: boiler installed, paint primed, first top coat going on.

Hallway: walls and ceiling primed.

Order radiator valves today (the funky ones which mean I'll be easily able to tip the rads forward to decorate behind them. This weekend am sourcing the old pine doors from the House Hospital.

Still have to order the washing machine and fridge (which I'm putting off untilt he kitchen is installed so I can check dimensions) and also I still need to choose kitchen tiles - again which can't be done til kitchen is installed.

Agreed stain for new and existing woodwork with decorators today.

Furniture restorers are ready to brig furniture as soon as I say go. Need to sort out when carpet fitters can come in to fit hall and kitchen carpet.

Have e-mailed project manager to see when they'll be finished. May have to see if I can extend rental on current flat for two weeks to end of August - which shouldn't be a problem as they haven't let it...yet. Otherwise back up plan is moving back to S's for a while and commuting.

It's finally coming together *G*

Dennis Scott, "More poem"
MORE POEM

'No more poem!' he raged, eye red;
'A solitary voice is wrong,
Jericho shall fall, shall fall
at the People's song!'

So. Only I-tongue have the right
to reason, to that sense of dread.
Man must keep silence now, except
man without bread.

No. See the flesh? It is cave, it is
stone. Seals every I away from light.
Alone. Man must chant as Man can
gainst night.

Dennis Scott, "Time piece"
TIME PIECE

There's a stone in my wrist
goes ticktocticktoc
it scares me sometimes, death,
I don't understand -
I mean the how
and the what,
but the why?
Ticktocticktoc.

The cells change completely
every seven years.
That's so your skin doesn't keep
the bruises
where people touch you
and hurt, you
can start again
fresh you see,
put them away
like old watches
you look at a lot
(but the hands don't move
any more, or something)
and after a while you forget,
and forget, you see.
Ticktoc. Ticktoc.

There's nothing quite like cold water sliding down your throat when you're really thirsty. Really cold.

My doctor says my backache will go away on its own. Well yeah, I figured that, but I'd kind of like something more than Tylenol in the mean time. I have to take 3 times the prescribed dosage of muscle relaxors to really take the edge off, plus 800 mg of Ibuprofen--which is going to give me ulcers. Whatever. >:/

Dark Knight was amazing. I literally sat there thinking: I will look back on this moment as the moment that I saw the best movie ever made. That might be dramatic, but it was spot on perfect through the whole thing. I actually teared up a few times because it was just so fucking poetic. Elegant and gritty at the same time. Plus, Watchmen trailer--holy shit.
